The PROJECT ..... |
THANKS Thanks to one of our parents, who kindly donated our 1st £1000 in June 2012. Thanks to Howard Lay Principle of Samuel Ward Academy, for putting up £50K cash to compliment the £100K piece of land he gifted to get the project started. |
With the land secured, the planning permission process started & Sport England funding for £150K already underway, to be matched by a further £150K funding (All raised with the help of Tim Wall - Sport Funding Consultant & Howard Lay), we're already on target to confirm the first £300K raised before Xmas 2012.
The next challenge is to get the other £300K+ raised that will allow us to have a facility, fully equipped with viewing balcony, toilets, changing areas and a fantastic Gym area, inclusive of pits, tumble tracks and sprung floors.

WHY?
We currently have (approx.) 220 children active in the club, saturating all the session time we can provide while operating out of the local leisure centre ... but we have a further 300 children waiting to join!!! Restricted by time available, we're just not providing the talented children we have in the club and on our waiting list, with the development opportunities they deserve. |

And with the new "Bio-Park" complex build project currently underway on the west end of town, extending the Cambridge Science parks onto our doorstep and new housing approved for build (X 2000 houses) over the next few years, to ensure the new jobs created can be supported with housing, we are predicting the gymnastics 'need' in the town and local area could be closer to 800-1000 children attending within the next few years, as the prospects and population rises in the town; making this an essential development for the town and British Gymnastics going forwards over decades.
Talent
As you'd expect we have some significant talent in our current gymnastic groups, with huge potential ... maybe able to go all the way (i.e. to become Olympic stars of the future).. And we're not short of pretty impressive coaches either, with our Head coach acknowledged and warmly regarded across the entire Eastern region and within British Gymnastics and ex International Commonwealth competitors in our coaching team (Gymnastics and Trampoline), we have a team around us who can achieve great things.... but if we can't give the coaches or the children the training time they deserve, we'll never know what opportunities we might be missing ... this makes time 'of the essence' ... we need better facilities NOW! to allow the club to run full time and give children, the community and the Academy pupils the opportunities they deserve.

Location, Location, Location! |
There are HUGE benefits to having the club in the Samuel Ward Academy, as it is now specialising in sport and running the most successful leadership development program in the country (the first Academy to get 'Outstanding' from Ofsted) under Howard Lays guidance and amazing philosophy.
As part of this development program, the Academy will 'specialise' in Gymnastics and with an established 'federation' of schools already working in partnership under an M.O.U., and the 'Mandatory Enrichment' element built into the timetables up to year 8, seeing year 9 students actively deliver 'leadership' support in various events and in the surrounding primary schools, this partnership between the Academy and the Club will not only develop gymnasts but sports coaches and leaders of the future. |
So please help us achieve this fantastic addition to a thriving and rapidly improving community and academy ... even if you can only give £0.50p, it will all make a difference. (Larger donations gratefully accepted as well). ;-)
Thanks in advance for all your support - you really can make a difference to these children's lives....
